1. Split Time Between Baylor and Miami

Mompremier began her collegiate career playing at Baylor, where she was primarily a bench contributor for teams that advanced to the Elite Eight in both of her seasons with the Lady Bears. However, after averaging fewer than 15 minutes per game in a crowded frontcourt, Mompremier decided to transfer to the University of Miami and play her final two collegiate seasons for her hometown school.

After sitting out a season due to transfer rules, Mompremier had an outstanding junior season. Her minutes doubled and so did her overall production. After averaging 8.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 14.5 minutes in her final season at Baylor, Mompremier averaged 16.7 points and 12.2 rebounds in 29.6 minutes in her first season at Miami.

The 6-foot-4 forward was able to showcase her game as she helped the Hurricanes go 25-9 on the year (their most wins since 2011-12) and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

2. Double-Double Machine

As a junior, Mompremier recorded 25 double-doubles, which tied her with Connecticut’s Napheesa Collier for the fifth-most in all of Division I. She added nine more double-doubles during her senior season, which was limited to 17 games.

During her 50 games as a Hurricane, Mompremier recorded 34 double-doubles, had 45 double-digit scoring games, 35 double-digit rebounding games and 12 20-point games, with career highs of 31 points and 22 rebounds.

In addition to her points and rebounds, Mompremier also averaged one steal and more than one blocked shot per game during her two seasons at Miami. Her ability as a rim protector was actually seen more during her two seasons at Baylor when she averaged 1.5 steals per game in under 15 minutes on the court.

3. Synergy Stats Spotlight: Post-Ups, Putbacks and Transition

When digging into Mompremier’s stats on Syngery, there are three play types that stand out from the rest – post-ups, putbacks and transition opportunities – as she ranked in the 82nd percentile or better among all collegiate players as a senior.

Post-ups accounted for 35% of Mompremier’s offense during her senior season; she scored 104 points on 107 post-up possessions and shot 52.6% on her post-up opportunities. When we look closer at the data, we can see that she spends most of her time on the left block (44.7% of her post-ups), but was most efficient when flashing in the middle of the paint (35.2% of her post-ups.

On middle flashes, Mompremier scored 1.33 points per possession, which put her in the 90th percentile in terms of efficiency. She shot 66.7% (16-24) on those possessions as she used her combination of size, speed and strength to convert in the lane – her quick spin move is especially devastating.

If she happens to miss in the lane, she has the length and quickness to rebound her own miss and convert on a putback, which accounted for 14.7% of her offense.

And as solid as she is in the half-court, Mompremier also excels in transition. This is where her athleticism shines over other bigs as she is able to run the floor, get ahead of her opponents and present a great target for her guards to find and has great hands to pull down just about any pass. Transition opportunities accounted for 10.8% of Mompremier’s offense this season and she scored 1.121 points per possession.

4. Expanding Her Offense

While the back-to-the-basket game is her bread and butter, Mompremier is capable of much more offensively and showcased those skills at Miami.

She can face the basket from the perimeter and either knock down mid-range jumpers, or use her quick first step to beat defenders off the dribble and get into the paint to create a scoring chance for herself or a teammate.

Mompremier is starting to extend her range as she attempted 13 3-pointers in her 17 games as a senior and shot better than 30 percent from beyond the arc. Adding a 3-point shot to her game will help her at the next level, where stretch fours are a premium.

“I don’t think she’s locked in to just one position,” Miami coach Katie Meier said of Mompremier. “She can stretch it.”

“Beatrice is not only a back-to-the-basket post player,” Meier added. “She’s very, very versatile. Her assist numbers went up. She can initiate a fast break off the bounce, off a rebound. She can play very fast if she needs too. She can run a half-court set. I think she meets a lot of needs for a lot of teams.”

5. Will Teams See Foot Injury As A Red Flag

As mentioned earlier, Mompremier’s senior season was limited to 17 games due to a foot injury that caused her to miss 13 games over six weeks from early January to mid February.

She returned to the court on Feb. 23 as she played in the final three regular season games and Miami’s opening round loss to Clemson in the ACC Tournament. In those games, Mompremier averaged 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds on 55.2% shooting from the field in just 22.8 minutes per game.

While she looked good in Miami’s final four games of the season, foot injuries to post players are always a cause for concern when thinking long term. However, Mompremier said it hasn’t been a question during the pre-draft interview process.

“No team has really asked me about my injury,” Mompremier said. “I’m pretty healthy now. I’ve been off my foot. I’ve been working out. I’ve been playing on it pretty much as if nothing ever happened.”
